In a world filled with noise and distraction, the ancient practice of biblical meditation stands as a timeless discipline that draws us into deeper communion with God. Unlike Eastern meditation, which often involves emptying the mind, biblical meditation is about filling our minds with God's truth and allowing it to transform us from the inside out.
The Hebrew word for meditation, "hagah," appears 25 times in the Old Testament. It carries the meaning of murmuring, pondering, and reflecting deeply. When Joshua was instructed to "meditate on [the Book of the Law] day and night" (Joshua 1:8), he was being called to internalize God's Word through thoughtful repetition and contemplation.
Similarly, when David writes in Psalm 1:2 about the blessed man whose "delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night," he is describing a process of rumination—taking God's truth and deeply processing it until it nourishes our spiritual life...
